BrainThump is my outlet for "fun projects" outside of what I do for a living. It started in 2004 when I first developed a .NET Compact Framework application for a U.S. Navy customer and I decided I really liked it so started doing it for fun after work. I created a binary clock for my Pocket PC which was pirated like crazy all across the known world but the development was still fun and apparently people liked what I was doing...even if they weren't willing to pay for it.
By day I work as a software engineer for a defense/government contractor developing solutions for customers like the U.S. Navy and the FAA. By night I like to develop software for Windows Mobile devices.
I'm also heavily involved with the .NET/Geek community. I love Code Camps (I've actually spoke at 10 of them so far), user groups, and the interaction with the whole community. For my efforts in supporting the community I've been recognized as a Microsoft MVP(Device Application Development), an INETA Community Champion, and inducted to the Community-Credit.com Hall of Fame.
The name "BrainThump" came about because it sounded like a fun name..and people tended not to forget it. It took on a whole new meaning in May of 2008 when I was in a pretty bad car wreck that left me with a mild brain injury. The effects of that lingered for a while (my wife says I was pretty much a zombie for about two weeks!) but over the months after that I got better. I think I'm pretty much OK now...comments and snide remarks from friends and my wife notwithstanding!
